Five reasons to start Qigong

Qigong is a holistic system of meditation, movement and breathing. It is also called ‘Mindful in motion’ or ‘Meditation in motion’. Qigong is one of the pillars in traditional Chinese medicine. It is beneficial for several health problems. Here are five good reasons to start with practicing today.

1. Qigong lowers blood pressure
Studies have shown that qigong is a effective and natural treatment for high blood pressure. 20 Studies with more than 2000 people involved demonstrated that qigong lowered the high blood pressure. The given medication worked even better with than without the qigong.

2. Qigong reduces the symptoms of tinnitus
Tinnitus is a hearing problem. It is described as a ringing, clicking, buzzing, hiss, or roaring sound coming from one ore both ears. A study of 80 people showed that regularly practicing qigong reduced the problem dramatically. Even after stopping the exercises the benefits were still noticeable for three months.

3. Qigong relieves pain
Qigong works with internal and external qi. There are qigong masters who are trained to transfer the external qi to others to improve their health. This treatment shows good results with conditions concerning chronic pain, lower back pain and fibromyalgia. In a British study it showed a significant reduce of pain of the qigong group compared to the control group. An American study concluded that this treatment is most likely effective for chronic pain. The result of the treatment is however depending on the skills of the master.

4. Qigong provides a good feeling
Practicing qigong twice a week can improve the balance, the endurance, the physical and mental health and spiritual well-being of elderly people. It can even improve depression with older people. If children practice twice a week their behaviour is positively effected as is their sense of well-being.

5. Qigong supports cancer treatment
Qigong helps against symptoms like fatigue. Feelings of fatigue and stress were more reduced by the group who practices qigong for three months than the group who only did some stretching exercises. According to a study among male and female cancer patients, qigong also improved the overall quality of life, mood and level of C-reactive protein (a sign of inflammation). Another study showed that qigong can boost the immune system and improve survival rates when applied as complementary treatment.
